  34. Is your ISP by any chance using US Robotics 28.8/33.6 Sportster modems? 
  35. There is a known bug which causes this very symptom; I have seen it
  36. numerous times, and it has been discussed to death on comp.dcom.modems. 
  37. I have also seen it on a Gateways modem which was apparently a
  38. remarketed US Robotics Sportster.
